Canada looks better every day

From the WP:

Bush told Texas newspaper reporters in a group interview at the White House on Monday that he believes that intelligent design should be taught alongside evolution as competing theories.

Here’s the best bit, though:
Gary L. Bauer, a Christian conservative leader who ran for president against Bush in the 2000 Republican primaries said:

With the president endorsing it, at the very least it makes Americans who have that position more respectable, for lack of a better phrase.

I’m leaning more towards Australia. I’ve heard from a new Canadian resident than Canadian men walk around in public shirtless and are partial to mandals (man sandals). I can’t abide by that.

The beach I went to as a kid always had a lot of tourists from Quebec, and they were easily identifiable because the males always wore speedos. We called them Quebby grape smugglers.

Australia, while not as bad as the US, has a surprisingly large fundamentalist population. I’m more inclined toward New Zealand. They have a female agnostic PM. That, and The Shire.

I’m cool with the reason-loving lady PM, but not so excited about the prospect of unending waves of Lord of the Rings fans invading my living space, pushing strollers full of kids doomed by nomenclature.

Sadly, when I googled this, this was not the only parent with a site who was bragging about deriving their kids name from Tolkien.

I think it’s telling that JRR had four children with classic names: John, Michael, Christopher, and Golem.

Ok, his daughter was actually named Priscilla.
