J-Dubs get competition

Witness at door

In Dover, PA, creationists are now proselytizing door-to-door. Jehova’s Witnesses and creationists might show up at the same time. So the question is: without using words, how do you make it clear that when you slam the door on them, the sentiment is intended for both of them?

Dover Panda Trial: ID proponent swallows foot

From New Scientist:

Astrology would be considered a scientific theory if judged by the same criteria used by a well-known advocate of Intelligent Design to justify his claim that ID is science, a landmark US trial heard on Tuesday.

Under cross examination, ID proponent Michael Behe , a biochemist at Lehigh University in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, admitted his definition of “theory” was so broad it would also include astrology.

Rothschild (plaintiffs’ attorney) suggested that Behe’s definition was so loose that astrology would come under this definition as well. He also pointed out that Behe’s definition of theory was almost identical to the NAS’s definition of a hypothesis. Behe agreed with both assertions.

And Behe doesn’t see anything wrong with that.

Great peanut gallery quote:

“You’ve got to admire the guy. It’s Daniel in the lion’s den,” says Robert Slade, a local retiree who has been attending the trial because he is interested in science. “But I can’t believe he teaches a college biology class.”

Name that witch-hunter

Question

Most online quizzes suck, but this one has a good premise. You’re given a quote and you have to attribute to the right person who said it. The choices are Falwell, Robertson, or Bin Laden.

Silver Ring Thing follow-up

We're Waiting

Remember the Silver Ring Thing I posted about a while ago? If you wear a scripture-engraved ring that means you promise not to have sex until your married. Or as the Yiddish aphorism goes, “no chuppah, no shtuppa”.

The federal government has stopped funding this citing state/church separation violation. Jesus must hate the ACLU.

From the AP article:

A group representing California religious schools has filed a lawsuit accusing the University of California system of discriminating against high schools that teach creationism and other conservative Christian viewpoints.

The Association of Christian Schools International, which represents more than 800 schools, filed a federal lawsuit Thursday claiming UC admissions officials have refused to certify high school science courses that use textbooks challenging Darwin’s theory of evolution. Other rejected courses include “Christianity’s Influence in American History.”
