Mike Seaver on evolution

Kirk Cameron

For those of you who haven’t watched the “Where Are They Now?” episode on Kirk Cameron, he’s focused his God-given acting ability to doing only productions that promote Christian evangelism. One of these is a series with a like-minded minister, called “The Way of the Master”. It’s a disarming name in that when you see it listed, you’re expecting a kung fu flick. So here’s a bit from their show where they seek to prove creationism with a banana, or as they call it, “the atheist’s nightmare.” The minister does all the talking, but Kirk does some excellent sitting.

You can’t marry my daughter, heathen

As part of the American Mosaic Project, the U of Minnesota did a study on how atheists are perceived in the US:

American’s increasing acceptance of religious diversity doesn’t extend to those who don’t believe in a god, according to a national survey by researchers in the University of Minnesota’s department of sociology.

From a telephone sampling of more than 2,000 households, university researchers found that Americans rate atheists below Muslims, recent immigrants, gays and lesbians and other minority groups in “sharing their vision of American society.” Atheists are also the minority group most Americans are least willing to allow their children to marry.

J-Dubs get competition

Witness at door

In Dover, PA, creationists are now proselytizing door-to-door. Jehova’s Witnesses and creationists might show up at the same time. So the question is: without using words, how do you make it clear that when you slam the door on them, the sentiment is intended for both of them?

Jesus loves gamers but hates copyright

Life 360

This was found on the front of a mail flyer in Phoenix. Some church in AZ co-opted the XBox 360 brand to sell Jesus. The initial inducement is obviously the gamer angle, but if you look at the text on the back, they’re also offering Krispy Kremes and Starbucks. Come for the donuts and tenuous video game analogies, stay for the salvation.

If this was local, I would totally go.

From the BBC:

A court in the US has ruled against the teaching of “intelligent design” alongside Darwin’s theory of evolution.

Smut for Smut

Smut 4 Smut

Atheist Agenda, an atheist group at U Texas San Antonio, staged a “Porno for Bibles” event, where they gave free pornography to people who traded in religious scripture.

Nice one!

I wonder if the Gideons like porn…

Bunch of pussies

From Slashdot:

The new Darwin Exhibit at the American Museum of Natural History has ‘failed to find a corporate sponsor in the United States because American companies are anxious not to take sides in the heated debate between scientists and fundamentalist Christians over the theory of evolution’ according to articles at The Sydney Morning Herald, The Telegraph, and The Register. The $US3 million needed for the exhibit was met by private charitable donations.
