Monty Python’s SPAMalot Wins 5, no 3 Tony Awards

It is highly unlikely that I will ever post anything Tony-related in the future. We saw Spamalot this past weekend and had a great time. Tim Curry and David Hyde Pierce were very good, but I think Hank Azaria stole the show. Also of note, the audience was a lot less geeky than I expected. Or maybe, I’ve just become relatively more geeky.
Oh, and I stole the headline from Slashdot.

Bigot-led boycott of Disney ends
Conservative Christian group, American Family Association, said it will end its 9 year boycott of Disney.
From the AP article:
The Tupelo-based Christian group has protested Disney’s extension of benefits to domestic partners of gay employees, promotion of gay-related events at its theme parks and violent and sex-filled content of movies made by its Miramax subsidiary.
The article goes on to say that the boycott had “limited impact”. No shit. I’m sure it was unsettling to Eisner when it was started 9 years ago. “What? Intolerant hate-mongering rednecks are going to avoid my park? Oh noes!”
Where reality TV rejects go
AP has an article on what happens to the the contestants from the time that they get booted to the air date of the final episode. Losers from The Apprentice get to stay in a
suite filled with food, beer, video games, DVDs and books
That sounds pretty cushy. Compare that to winning; having to tongue the taint of a megalomaniacal choad.

Wal-Mart surrenders to Netflix
Last year Wal-Mart started a service to compete with Netflix, but now it looks like Wal-Mart has thrown in the towel. Not only that, they’re now advertising for Netflix.
Wal-Mart has teamed up with Netflix, the largest and most popular online DVD rental service. As a current Wal-Mart DVD Rentals member, you can cancel your account and sign up with Netflix today. You’ll get all the Netflix benefits for the same low rate you now pay at Wal-Mart!
I’m curious what this will mean for Netflix. Obviously, their sales will get a boost, but what about their catalog? Wal-Mart only carried films with “Wal-Mart Approved Content”. Netflix better not drop controversial titles or carry only censored versions. Leave that to Blockbuster.

Breakin: the review

Our good friend, Electro Rock (aka Kid Angry), registered here last week. His chosen user name was in reference to the bad guy crew in the movie, Breakin’. Having not thought about that movie for some time, I decided to take a stroll down memory lane and see what I could dredge up on the topical flick. I found that someone actually wrote a review. I like how it starts:
Breakin’ is one of those films that do not translate well into a review.
