San Diego is just weird
Nestled deep in the heart of Hillcrest, San Diego’s gay neighborhood, is this store:
To my mind, bingo is for little old ladies dependent on their Social Security income and people with developmental disabilities. (Note the good luck dollies for sale in the top right corner of the photo). How is this store still open in a hipper-than-thou neighborhood? For that matter, how many people (gay or straight) buy their own bingo equipment?

I love those shops that seem like they’re in the wrong neighborhood. When I was living DC, the best soul food restaurant in the city was in Chinatown. Mmm… chicken on a waffle.

Back in high school my friends and I would go to bingo nites at a large church nearby. We had a blast and we didn’t even have to drink.
Maybe I can explain why:
– food is very cheap at bingo nite
– chance to win cash or fabulous prizes
– nurses aides are hot
– ol’ ladies performing their “good luck rituals” is endlessly entertaining
– granny-fuckin’
